BIRTHDAY

Well, the big day came & went without much to-do. I must say I got the best card ever from Chi Chi and my hubby even got me a card (after 11 years!) It's the little things that make me happy! Like being able to be a 40-year old who has a "Bratz Girlz" party! LOL! Yes, I did. I bought cupcakes and a "Bratz Girlz" table cloth, cups & plates. Chi Chi happened to be having a playdate with two little friends, so with tiaras and all we sang happy birthday (to me) and blew out the candle. At this age only ONE candle is necessary!!! On the adult side, we went out with the kids to sushi (my favorite) and I had a margarita, so it was a nice enjoyable birthday. I have to say though, I do miss those birthday cakes my mom use to get me when I was little. I guess that's never gonna change!

Another year older and hopefully another year wiser...although I'll tell you right now I still have no intention of growing up!

DOSE OF REALITY

The other day my dad hands me a bag filled with stuff from when I was a kid. So yesterday, I'm going through the bag and I find my pink baby doll from 1970! I was so excited. When Chi Chi gets home I show her and say "Look at this how cute!" It's from when I was a little kid like you, maybe I can still sleep with it, what do you think?" And she says, "Are you kidding, you're too old to sleep with dolls and besides your gonna be 40 on Wednesday, you can't do that!" Thank you Chi Chi for the wake up call on being too old! Maybe she'll appreciate my little doll when she's older! LOL!

CONGRATS J.LO! DOUBLE HAPPINESS!

Congratulations to Jennifer Lopez and March Anthony!! J.Lo had her babies today (2/22/08) Here is the new story straight from her website:

"It’s double the baby joy for Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony: They’re the proud new parents of twins, a boy and a girl, Lopez’s manager tells PEOPLE exclusively. The babies were born early Friday in Long Island, N.Y. The girl was born at 12:12 a.m. and weighed 5 lbs. 7 oz., and the boy followed at 12:23 a.m., weighing 6 lbs. “Jennifer and Marc are delighted, thrilled and over the moon,” Lopez’s manager Simon Fields tells PEOPLE. They’re the first children for Lopez, 38, and the fourth for Anthony, 39. The couple celebrated the impending births with a baby shower in New York on Jan. 19. “They were just beaming the entire time,” said one partygoer.

Longtime friend Leah Remini calls Lopez, 38, “a born mom” and very nurturing. “With our daughter, she’s so great. I mean, lets her go in her closet and play with her coats or her jewelry. She’s just so giving and loving,” Remini said. Lopez announced her pregnancy Nov. 8, telling the crowd during her final Miami concert: “Marc and I are expecting a baby!” The news of twins was finally confirmed by Lopez’s dad earlier this month, in an interview on Spanish-language television.

Lopez Long Kept Pregnancy Secret
During the early weeks of her pregnancy, Lopez skillfully ducked the question, even when appearing on TV in October with Diane Sawyer and with David Letterman. Lopez shrugged off the secrecy, telling Harper’s Bazaar, “I kind of feel like everybody knew anyway. I was on tour with a bubble gut!”

And being tight lipped has long been Lopez’s style. When she married Anthony in June 2004, her rep would neither confirm nor deny the nuptials had taken place. What are not being kept secret are Lopez’s plans now that she’s a mother. As she told Harper’s, the hard-working performer intends to take off time.

“Once I did the tour,” she said, “I really just wanted to shut it down, and since then I’ve had to do three things, including a video. It may not sound like a lot, but you know, as this point, any woman can sympathize. It is a lot. I was ready just to sit.”

And listen to this!!

People magazine is poised to pay Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony between $4 million and $6 million for exclusive U.S. rights to the first photos of their expected twins, people familiar with the negotiations said last week. At the high end, the payout would not only match box-office receipts for J.Lo’s “Gigli,” maybe a modest achievement even for newborns, but also set a stratospheric standard in the market for celebrity baby photos. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, after all, only generated $4 million — if that.

People magazine and the stars’ representatives denied last week that any deals were complete. “I have no comment on these particular pictures,” said Larry Hackett, People’s managing editor. In the Lopez camp, Leslie Sloane Zelnick said she had heard inquiries, but declined to say more. Simon Fields, Ms. Lopez’s production partner at Nuyorican Productions, said no deal was done. Asked whether one would be, he said, “I don’t know.” Fran DeFeo, a rep for Mr. Anthony, did not respond to messages.

But the tentative arrangement that others described divvies the rights into domestic use for People and international use for OK magazine, whose many editions abroad now include a start-up in Spain, at a reputed $2 million. The Lopez camp declined to confirm a due date, but staffers at the publications are expecting the babies to be born in the next few weeks.

RESIGNATION, SO WHAT!

"Again we have to hear this story Mommy?" said my 5-year old as the Fidel Castro story ran again on the news. Imagine this coming from a little kid after only hearing it twice! Imagine 49 years of the same rhetoric! That's all we ever heard about here in good ol' South Fla. Seriously, do we really believe that Castro's "resigning" is going to make any bit of difference. It's ridiculous to hear people being interviewed saying we're close to the end, almost victory. Give me a break! After 49 years in power - Castro won! It is very sad to say but it is a fact. I feel for people like my grandparents and family members who lost their homes and businesses and my parents who had to flee their country at such a young age. I can't even imagine seeing my little kids having to leave this city, let alone the country! But as sad as it is the guy won. He did what he wanted all these years and no one ever had the "balls" (excuse my language) to do anything about it. As a Cuban-American I know both sides of the story.

It is absurd to think there is some sort of victory out of his supposed resignation. The guy is probably dead or bed-ridden but he's been smart enough to outwit the US and all the exiles all this time so why stop now.

I think we should relax the embargo, allow travel, help the country get back on it's feet, because eventually it will, and then we can all be drinking mojitos in La Habana!!

HOLY CRAP - NEWS STORY

"Man hid wife in drum for 23 years

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- A man who hid his wife's body for 23 years in a steel drum in the couple's suburban Australian backyard was convicted Saturday of her murder.

Frederick Boyle, 58, claimed he hid the body of Edwina Boyle out of panic after finding her dead in bed at their home on the outskirts of the southern city of Melbourne on October 6, 1983.

He had pleaded not guilty to her murder at the outset of his weeklong trial, but a Victoria state Supreme Court jury found him guilty Saturday.

Boyle told the court this week he found his 30-year-old wife dead in bed with two bullets in her head and one of his neckties around her throat.

Boyle had told his two daughters their mother ran off with a truck driver, but a son-in-law found the remains in the 170-liter (44-gallon) drum while tidying the yard in October 2006."

BE AWARE & PASS IT ON

This poor little boy was abducted in Texas. What a scary world we are living in that this can happen in your own drive way. Let's pray they find this child safe and sound.

"Austin, TX -- Austin police issued an Amber Alert for a 5-year-old boy abducted. It happened at a home in the 11800 block of Shropshire.

Five-year-old Adrian Jaimes was taken by three Hispanic men, possibly in their teens, from his mother's car around 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday morning, the family was loading into the car. Adrian's mother was getting in the driver's seat, and Adrian was getting into the back seat when the gray Jetta pulled up past the house. One of the suspects jumped out of the car and took Adrian, who struggled with his abductors. His mother attempted to approach the Jetta to get him, but the car doors were locked.

The teens were last seen wearing white-hooded sweatshirts and driving a gray Volkswagen Jetta with grey, dark-tinted windows.

Adrian is about 4 feet tall and weighs 50 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a green jacket, black T-shirt and dark blue pants.

Adrian is in kindergarten at Copperfield Elementary in the Pflugerville Independent School District. Two police cars are on campus, and police said they're interviewing students and teachers."

FEBRUARY

This is the month of my BIG bday and I'm freaking out!! Middle age! Looking at it optimistically of course, assuming I can reach age 80! Whew! Wow, when did I get this old? I mean I know it's still young in the whole scope of things but I remember when MY parents were this age!

I was strolling the hallways of our children's school today (which goes through highschool) and there I was walking among the juniors and seniors and the sad part was that I can no longer be confused for anyone of these students! LOL! Nope, it was quite obvious -I was the mom! But hey, although I'm really freaking about turning the big 4-0 I have to say I couldn't be more blessed! I have the most beautiful wonderful children and a husband who loves me and puts up with my bitcy-self (and hey, that's not easy!)

So, as I count down to the end of the month, I count my blessings and will enjoy Valentine's and my wedding anniversary too along the way!

What a fabulous month!
