6 WAYS TO MAKE MOVING EASIER FOR KIDS

Moving can be an awesome, fun adventure, but it can also be a pretty scary change for your little ones. Today, I want to share with you 6 ways to make moving fun with kids. It is possible, I promise. You might just have to get creative, while also making sure you take the time to really understand their fears, anxiety, or stress, as well.

Here are some of my best tips when it comes to making moving fun for the whole family:

Create a fun moving playlist
When you are packing or cleaning, there’s nothing like a good playlist to get you in the mood. Plus, music also motivates kids and gets them moving. Sit down with your kids and create the ultimate energizing playlist that will help you guys get your packing (+ moving + unpacking) done faster. You can put on songs that will brighten your moods, and you can encourage your kids to have a packing dance party. Include some songs about moving or traveling as well, so they can relate to them. Music helps everyone have more fun, no matter what you are tasked with, so get some music on and get moving. Pro tip: add a few ‘surprise’ songs in there, if you are able to. This will get them really excited when the surprise songs come on!

Keep some kid essentials out of the boxes
Okay, so this might not be a “fun” tip, but I believe it’s an essential one. Packing for a move is a long process, and the house is going to look messy and disorganized. It’s easiest to pack up one room at a time, but it isn’t that easy when you’re moving with children. The little ones will have their favorite toys, blankets, clothes, and much more that they feel they can’t live without. Instead of fighting with them on it, let them choose which items to pack and which ones to leave out. Kids need familiarity, and those few items will make it seem less like their world is falling apart. Keep some of their essentials out of the boxes and either pack to-go bags that they can take in the car with them, or save those items to be packed last and unpacked first at the new house.

Visit your new home before moving in
If you are able, take the kids over to the new house before moving day. Sometimes children struggle with intangible ideas and places, so the more they know about the new place, the better. Being able to get a feel for the neighborhood and the layout of the new house will make them feel more at home when you move in (and it just might do the same for the grownups, too). While you are at it, if you are allowed inside, go ahead and let them choose their own rooms. When they start daydreaming of what they are going to do in the home, it makes it that much more exciting for them.

Explore your new city
If you are moving to a new city, take a trip and explore it before moving day! If you already know what school(s) your kids will be attending, try visiting it, too. When you do visit your new city, choose spots around the town that you know your kids will be excited about. For example, if they love burgers, find the best burger spot. Love playgrounds? Explore 5 in a day! Whatever you do, make it fun, and get them excited about this new city. It is a huge, exciting change for you, but it’s even more of a huge change for them, too.

Let your kids help with the packing process
If you want your kids to be excited about this move, let them help! If you need packing supplies, MT. Zion Moving & Storage LLC can help with that. They can also help with full-service packing services, if you’d rather not pack. And finally, they can offer full moving services, too. They are hot tub movers in Tampa, residential movers, and commercial movers, too. They offer junk removal services, home staging, packing and unpacking, and so much more. MT. Zion Moving & Storage LLC understands that the key to a successful move is to make customer satisfaction the top priority. Their goal is to make your move as stress-free as possible, which is why each member of their team (which includes sales consultants, packers, vehicle operators, and more) is fully trained and committed to providing the highest standard of personalized service in the industry. If you just need packing supplies, they have you covered. If you want them to do the packing, they’ve got you! And of course, if you want a full-service move so that you don’t have to lift a finger, that is their specialty!

Be patient
Again - not the most ‘fun’ tip, but it’s also an important one. Be patient with your kids if they are struggling emotionally with your move. No matter how fun you make it, there might still be some tears shed, and that’s okay! Try to keep it positive and upbeat, but also take the time to love and hug on your kids. Be there to support them and listen to their fears. This will be a process for the whole family and everyone processes things differently. There is no “right” or “wrong” way.
