BENEFITS OF ROLE-PLAYING GAMES FOR CHILDREN

by Amy Mia Goldsmith (Guest Blogger)

When my daughter first asked me to take her to a friend’s birthday party structured around role-play games, I was very suspicious. Personally, I used to believe that such games have little practical value and serve merely as an escape from reality, not as skill-building playtime. But as I watched her play with other kids at the birthday party, I realized that there are quite a few gains to role playing. If your kids are crazy about Dungeons & Dragons, Legends of Might and Magic, or Game of Thrones, you may want to let them live out their fantasy – and here is why.

1. Playing Cultivates Creativity

Role-playing games revolve around creativity : there are some rules which ought to be followed, but role playing does entail a degree of personal freedom and improvisation. In essence, the aim of the game is to create a story, and storytelling encourages imagination like no other pastime activity out there. During the game, participants cast off their everyday personality and assume a character of a hero or villain, attempting to make the persona as charismatic as possible, which requires active mental work, lots of creativity, and basic acting skills.

2. Playing Levels Up Your Social Skills

Social interaction during a role-playing game is to a degree governed by game rules, but players are allowed to experiment and add a personal touch to the character they are impersonating. Through role play, shy children can overcome their fear of contact and improve communication skills, which is a healthier alternative to video or PC games where the players are separated by screens. By engaging in a role playing session, your little one can make friends based on their interests more easily. In addition to that, the assumed persona allows the child to feel more at ease stepping outside their comfort zone because their personal insecurities and sensitive spots are concealed behind a mask.

3. Playing Encourages Teamwork and Cooperation

Teamwork and cooperation are valuable lessons that will get your child far in adulthood, and role playing is a great tool for laying down the foundations of these qualities at an early age. Though winning or losing still matters in role play, achieving victory is possible only through collaboration and joint effort, and unless every group member puts their role-determined skills to good use, the whole team will suffer. For this reason, teams must function as a seamless whole and come up with ways to earn points without violating the rules – and that is a priceless skill for a child to develop for their later life.

4. Playing Teaches Problem Solving Skills

Problem solving is another aspect of role playing that has practical value in the real world. While cheating is not allowed, creative thinking and innovative approach to problems are encouraged by the game master, and team collaboration on a problem is necessary for success. For this reason, role playing teaches kids to keep an open mind, examine the situation from multiple aspects, improvise, and think critically without sacrificing imagination or fun. My kids’ favorite role-playing game is Poptropica, a virtual world which focuses on games, travel, and problem solving, and it has helped my daughter considerably improve her logical thinking

5. Playing Is Fun

Role playing is fun, too: it allows the players to turn their back to everyday concerns and step into a magical world where everything is possible. That is probably why both children and adults love these games: there is no embarrassment, no stress, and no long-term consequences, only a challenge and an adventure to be had. The world of role playing is a realm of dreams, where our kids can be whomever they want to be, and the thrills and surprises are a given.

Role-playing games are not just masquerades for game-crazed geeks and no-lifers: more than a nerdy play-pretend, role play can teach our kids a few lessons about communication, creativity, cooperation, and importance of teamwork. Kids love role playing: it is fun, creative, challenging, and it allows them to put on a persona and practise acting skills – and most importantly, it allows every mother to turn her gaze from her energetic offspring and tend to their own needs.

JUST A HOUSEWIFE

How many times have you heard people say, "Oh, she doesn't work, she's just a housewife."  How annoying is that?  As mothers, we know just how difficult it is to maintain the household, juggle the kids and their activities and if you work at home or outside the home, you have all that and more!

I saw this post today on Facebook and I thought I would share it with you all, as I thought it was right on point:

Conversation between a husband (H) and a psychologist

My wife does not work
My wife doesn't work!!!
Conversation between a husband (H) and a psychologist (P):
Q: what do you do for a living Mr. Rogers?
H: I work as an accountant in a bank.
P: Your wife?
H: She doesn't work. She's a housewife.
Q: Who makes breakfast for your family?
H: My wife, because she doesn't work
Q: What time does your wife wake?
H: She wakes up early because it has to be organised. She organizes the lunch for the children, ensures that they are well-dressed and combed, if they had breakfast, if they brush their teeth and take all their school supplies. She wakes with the baby and changes diapers and clothes. Breastfeeds and makes snacks as well.
Q: How do your children get to school?
H: My wife takes them to school, because she doesn't work.
P: After taking their children to school, what does she do?
H: Usually takes a while to figure something out that she can do while she is out, so she doesn't have to pack and unpack the carseat too many times, like drop off bills or to make a stop at the supermarket. Sometimes she forgets something and has to make the trip all over again, baby in tow. Once back home, she has to feed the baby lunch and breastfeed again, get the baby's diaper changed and ready for a nap, sort the kitchen and then will take care of laundry and cleaning of the house. You know, because she doesn't work.
P: In the evening, after returning home from the office, what are you doing?
H: Rest, of course. Well, I'm tired after working all day in the bank.
Q: What does your wife do at night?
H: She makes dinner, serves my children and I, washes the dishes, orders once more the house, makes sure the dog is put away as well as any left over dinner. After helping children with HW she gets them prepared to sleep in pajamas and the baby is in fresh diapers, gives warm milk, verifies they brush their teeth. Once in bed she wakes frequently to continue to breastfeed and possibly change a diaper if needed while we rest. Because she doesn't have to get up for work.

This is the daily routine of many women all over the world, it starts in the morning and continues until the wee hours of the night... This is called "doesn't work"?!
Being a housewife has no diplomas, but has a key role in family life!

Enjoy and appreciate your wife, mother, grandma, aunt, sister, daughter... Because their sacrifice is priceless.

Somebody asked her...
You are a woman who works or is it just "housewife"??
She replied:
I work as a wife of the home, 24 hours a day..
I am a mother,
I am a woman,
I am a daughter,
I'm the alarm clock,
I'm the cook,
I'm the maid,
I am the master,
I'm the bartender,
I'm the babysitter,
I'm a nurse,
I am a manual worker,
I'm a security officer,
I'm the advisor,
I am the comforter,
I don't have a vacation,
I don't have a license for disease.
I don't have a day off
I work day and night,
I'm on duty all the time,
I do not receive salary and...
Even so, I often hear the phrase:
" but what do you do all day?"

TURMERIC AS EFFECTIVE AS 14 DRUGS

Science Confirms That Turmeric As Effective As 14 Drugs

http://track.healthtrader.com/track.php?c=cmlkPTc3NDM2OSZhaWQ9NjMwODM4MzU

Turmeric or Curcumin is a wonder herb and it has many health benefits. It’s bright orange, bitter and powerful.Turmeric is the vibrant ingredient that gives curry it’s memorable hue. If you’ve tried Indian cuisine, you’ve likely tasted it and loved it.

This predominant spice is used generously in nearly all Indian meals. Perhaps that’s why India has among the lowest rates of lung, colon, prostrate & breast cancer, Curcumin, the active agent in turmeric has been used in Ayurveda, the Ancient form of Indian Medicine for thousands of years and Western Science is catching on. Turmeric has matched and outperformed many modern medicines.
This potent spice is packed with anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants. Turmeric has been proven to fight free radicals, rejuvenate the cells, cleanse the liver, protect the heart, boosts moods and support the brain.

Sound too good to be true? There’s more.Turmeric has been shown to lift levels of norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. With a stronger cocktail of these neuro-chemicals we’re all a little happier.
Turmeric has ten neuro-protective actions that support better memory, focus and cognition. This multifunctional spice is also used to regulate fat metabolism, alleviate IBS, regulate bile flow, reduce joint pain and bring luster to the skin.

Turmeric or Haldi as they call it in Hindi is revered for it’s spiritual significance. Often referred to as The Golden Spice or The Spice of Life, turmeric is a common accessory in wedding rituals and prayer ceremonies. Originally the spice was used in rites and rituals intended to promote fertility, prosperity and spiritual purification.

Turmeric is incredibly purifying. As a sure source of anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial extracts, this spice can help you fight infections and boost immunity. Dense in vitamins and minerals this magical spice promotes overall well being.

Curcumin/Turmeric Capsules, Not Nearly As Effective

The active agents in turmeric are fat soluble, meaning you need fat in the carrier to effectively absorb and assimilate the benefits. In order to make the most of your turmeric you must take it with a source of fat.The spice has stood the test of time in India as a form of medicine because it’s used in cooking and oil is almost always present in the recipe. The fat from the oil is the consort ingredient.
The vitamin and supplement industry is steadfast and ever growing. It’s the American way to think we can identify a component, examine it, prove it, magnify it, package it and sell it. Well, it doesn’t always work that way. The bedrock of Ayurveda and Eastern Medicine is that we are more than the sum total of our parts.

Holistic medicine stands firm on a platform that demonstrates the inter-connectedness of the mind, body and soul. Just as there is a delicate and intelligent interplay between the mind, body and soul, there is a delicate and intelligent interplay between the brain, gut and formation of tissues.

A capsule version of turmeric (aka curcumin) will get the spice into your body but it won’t guarantee the digestion and absorption of the nutrients into your system. According to Ayurveda there are seven layers of tissues: plasma, blood, muscles, fat, bones, nervous tissue and reproductive tissue.
Each tissue is nourished in sequential order based on how well food is digested, absorbed and assimilated. If you want the benefits of turmeric to touch all your tissues, a capsule just won’t cut it. The body simply doesn’t integrate capsules as it would food.

Doses Of Using Turmeric In Different Ways

1.Always buy certified organic.
2.Make sure your spices are free of chemicals, preservatives, fillers and additives.
3.Drink Golden Milk
Golden milk is an ancient health elixir: Combine 1/2 tsp of organic turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp of organic ginger powder and a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom into one cup of hot almond/soy/rice or hemp milk. If you’re using a liquid with low fat content you can add 1/2 tsp of coconut oil or ghee (clarified butter) to guarantee maximum absorption. Drink this daily.
4.Combine turmeric with black pepper to amp up the effect.
Cook with turmeric, black pepper and ginger. These heating, metabolism charging spices have a synergistic effect that will increase the bio availability by 1,000 times. Make sure to dissolve the spices in ghee or coconut oil while cooking.
5.Pour it into your smoothies.
Dissolve a full teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of black pepper into hot coconut oil and pour it into your smoothie or juice.
6.Stir it into olive oil for salads and veggie mixes. You can also sprinkle it on an avocado and pair it with your meal.
7.Skip the pill.
If you’re taking the capsule version at least take it with 1 cup of hot water. In the cup of hot water, add 1 tsp of ghee or connect oil and a generous pinch of black pepper.
8.Turmeric Benefits For Skin

A MOTHER'S WISH

JOEY FEEK, COUNTRY SINGER, DIES AT 40

My heart ached every time I read an update about ‪#‎JoeyFeek‬. Her courage to fight to stay alive every day for her child and her family was admirable and her amazing bravery, as she "let go," was beyond words.

I watched my own mother wither away from the grips of cancer and it was absolutely heart-wrenching. Now as an adult, I not only know what it is like to lose your mom to cancer, but as a mother, I felt Joey's enormous pain as she said good-bye to her child. 😢

God bless her soul and may she rest in eternal peace." She was a true warrior and will be missed by many.

Sending prayers for the family. 🙏🏻 ‪#‎mommywarrior‬

Joey Martin Feek of country duo Joey + Rory dies

(CNN) Joey Martin Feek, one half of the country duo Joey + Rory, died Friday after a battle with cervical cancer, her husband announced on Facebook. She was 40 years old.
"My wife's greatest dream came true today," Rory Feek wrote. "She is in heaven."

Rory Feek said his wife died about 2:30 p.m. with her family around her in a home in Indiana.
Martin Feek and her husband were discovered in 2008 after they competed on CMT's music competition show "Can You Duet." Their first single, "Cheater, Cheater," had a popular video with a cameo by Naomi Judd, a judge on "Can You Duet."

Fans fell in love thanks to their talent and to an audition video that showed the couple's devotion to each other. In it, they shared the story of their meeting at a songwriting event in 2002 and the restaurant, Mary Jo's, that Martin Feek opened with her sister-in-law near their home in Columbia, Tennessee.

In 2009, the Feeks won top new vocal duo at the Academy of Country Music Awards. They were nominated for a Grammy Award this year for "If I Needed You."

The couple and their restaurant were also featured in Overstock.com commercials, bringing further exposure. Joey + Rory went on to release six studio albums.

The couple shared Martin Feek's diagnosis of cancer in 2014, soon after the birth of their daughter, Indiana, who has Down syndrome.

Despite intensive treatment and surgery, the cancer spread to her colon, and in November, the devout couple asked fans to pray for her healing and "God's will." The next day, Feek posted that his wife's tumors had continued to grow and said doctors told them that "we need to concentrate now on helping her be comfortable."

"Not the answer we hoped for," he wrote on their blog. "But the answer He has given us."
On Friday he wrote that, as his wife wished, he would return to Nashville. Saying goodbye was hard, he wrote, but her memories would stay with him and their children.

"It's hard for me to imagine being there without Joey," he wrote. "It's where she will be. ... She's gonna be in the mint growing beside our back deck, the sweet-corn frozen in our freezer and a million other places that her hand and heart has touched around our little farmhouse and community. Joey will still be with us. Everywhere."

Country singer Chris Young expressed his condolences on Twitter. "Have played shows with Joey and Rory before and it's so sad to lose her amazing voice," he wrote.  In addition to her husband and daughter, Martin Feek is survived by her husband's two daughters from an earlier relationship, her parents and three sisters.

CNN's Steve Almasy contributed to this report.

"BRA FAIRY" HELPS HOMELESS WOMEN WITH BASIC NEEDS

As a woman and a mother, I know all too well, (as I am sure you do too,) how difficult it is to "keep it together," raising kids, working, maintaining the home, trying to make ends meet. Whether you are going through a rough time now or not, you are still able to have a roof over your head and still have the privilege of going online to read this article.  Do you ever stop and think about the things that homeless people go through? I know, I always have.  We live in a world today that economic stability is no longer guaranteed.

I've always wondered how a woman survives "out there" alone with all the things we women have to go through, living in "normal" conditions, imagine those who are homeless! Not only is it horrible to be homeless, but imagine, the women out there without a place to stay during their "time of the month?! What are they suppose to do?

Many homeless women can’t even afford food and housing, let alone necessary feminine items like bras and menstrual hygiene products. One woman, in D.C., is helping make a differenceDara Marlowe, is supporting women without homes by providing them with items they'd otherwise would never have.  She has collected 40,000 feminine products to boost the self-esteem of homeless women.

Marlowe is a mother of two boys, who runs a disability advocacy and consulting company.  She decided to do something about the huge problem homeless women are faced with on a daily basis.  Since homeless shelters rarely receive donations of bras and feminine hygiene products, Marlowe started the organization Support the Girls.   During her free time, Marlowe collects these important items, organizing house pick-ups and dropping everything off at shelters in the Washington D.C. area, where she lives.

Watch this video to see how Dana and 'Support the Girls' is making an impact on the lives of homeless women!

Dana Marlowe and her organization "Support the Girls," is a huge inspiration and I love how she is being a hero and making a difference in the world!   I'd love to do the same thing here in South Florida and help out homeless women.

MOMMY WARRIOR and www.AlexAngels.com would also love to make a difference!  I will try my best to get this movement going in my area as well!  We have to all make a conscious effort to realize how blessed our lives truly are!

Who's in?
