GRATITUDE - THE GIFT OF LIFE

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to appreciate that everyday I wake up and every birthday I celebrate, is a gift!

Life they say, is all about finding your purpose. Not too sure yet if this is my purpose, but my passion is in writing, motivating and helping others to choose better days for their mind, body and soul and often times, I do it by sharing it on my blog and social media platforms. I like to believe that there may be some people out there that I inspire or help make their day a little better simply by sharing some motivational words or coaching them through difficult times, even if sometimes, I too, get lost in my empathy and need to "heal the world," so to speak. My path to wellness has been paved through gratitude and alternative health options and I want to share it with the world.  As the years go by, and thankfully, birthdays come & go, I feel like I am running out of time. If life has taught us anything recently is that, we indeed do not have time promised to us.

Life is a snippet of moments and I have been blessed with some great ones!  It's funny that with all with all the days we have lived, when we reflect back on life, it is only a few snapshots in our minds that really stand out. Sometimes, it is the most innocuous of memories that come to mind! It is those memories that we can look back on and judge our lives. Good? Bad? Happy? Sad?  A little mix of it all?

When we learn to live in the mix of chaos and love, and in the balance of good and bad; happy and sad; ups and downs…we can conquer anything!

And when it’s all said and done, I want to be remembered for the life I gave, the lives I brought into this Universe and hopefully, for the difference I made while I was on this Earth.

The greatest gift I have is my children and hopefully someday they will know how much they are loved and how important it is to make a mark in the world in a positive way. It is why we are ALL here! “Children (and grandchildren) are the messages we leave behind to a time we may not see.”

My advice to them and to you, my friend is:

Live each day with a grateful heart! Tell the people you love, how you feel about them while they are alive, be kind to each other, make an effort to make a positive impact in the world - I know sometimes, it gets hard. Do what you love and love who you want. And if you can't be with who you want, learn to be alone!  Learn to love yourself regardless of whether you have a partner or not! Do what makes you happy, yet never forget that empathy and compassion are an integral part of living in society.

Remember that age is nothing but a number and time is promised to no one. Every new day is an opportunity to start over if you need a "re-do." Never forget that life is most definitely a gift and when you get the chance to give it away, pray that you have lived your life to the fullest and leave a legacy behind that you can be proud of and if you get the chance to leave a piece of you behind, (save a life or two,) be come an organ donor!

Live your life as if everyday was your last because time is precious. This teaches you to be grateful for everything you have in the moment. While you are living your life, don’t forget to stop and smell the (proverbial) flowers!
And if you have to pick a flower, pick a sunflower always standing tall and looking for the light!
💫
Always be safe and be smart with your choices and live your best life! ALWAYS trust your instincts and the “little voice in your mind,” that sometimes tells you “that’s not a good idea.” That could be your guardian angel or simply the voice of reason - don’t ignore it.

Always remember that YOU have the Power to be Happy, to be healthy and to be kind. You hold the key to many different doors...choose your path wisely and don’t ever be afraid to start something new if you feel stuck. You will only regret the opportunities you missed. Take a chance - you won’t know until you try.

What you do matters.

With all its clichés and quotes, I have learned that life can be wonderful, even if it is not perfect. Sometimes, it is through the hardest and most difficult days, that we have the most growth and feel so deeply and so passionately, the love of our friends, our family and our community.

Love your journey

🥰

Cheers to another year of life! The gift of life. Thank you for being a part of my journey!Love Always....Lissette

WE ALL HAVE TO TRY

How Politics is Affecting Our Lives and Why We Have to Try...

(Originally written in 2016)
Like me, you might be sick and tired of hearing about politics but I just had to write about it for the record and for my children, as a lesson to learn. Truth be told, almost no one in politics is honest lately. They may start out honest but sooner or later they all get trapped in “the system.” I mean, they shouldn’t but some of them do.
Personally, I think that for the most part, there is zero creativity or original thought in any words spoken out of a politician’s mouth. It has either been spoken before or inspired by a previous politician or otherwise. They are ALL playing the “game.”  Both sides suck, in my humble opinion. They each have a long list of cons, (no pun intended.) Basically, the U.S. election of 2016, came down to who the country thought was the “lesser of two evils,” which is a really sad reality when it comes to the future of our children and grandchildren. The fact that most people voted for who they thought was the “least worst option,” instead of the most-qualified.

What we as Country, and as human beings, have to worry about, is not who will sit in the White House, but how we will ALL get along! We should worry about how we will fight not only the “evil” in the world, but the hatred within our own walls. When we stop throwing stones at each other, (our neighbors, our FB friends, our co-workers, our own relatives,) then maybe, just maybe we can start to make the world a better place. People are bashing each other every time someone else has a different opinion than them. We can't even find common ground from the inside out, how is any Country going to respect us? Personally, I am not happy with “45” because I think he is not remotely qualified for an infinite number of reasons, but mainly because of his lack of diplomacy and his horrible temperament and his big mouth, but I am not going to go around and burn flags or cause public destruction, that’s just plain stupidity! But besides all that, I also think it is wrong when people start spewing hatred and racism when they don’t agree with another political opinion. You can dislike a political party but there is no need to attack someone’s skin color, heritage or any other personal attack - that is just reprehensible, especially when it comes from people who preach to be so moral and religious. That is why I dislike religion so much, because of the hypocrisy of it all. People go to church, temples, mosque, (wherever) preaching, and then turn around and can’t even show respect for their fellow man? Come on!
As a Country, and as a human race, we are losing hope, respect, compassion and especially TOLERANCE!!! And without those, we are all lost. Although, the 2016 election brought nothing but heated debates and passionate arguments in the U.S.A. and around the world, we have to come to the realization that no matter, who is the President of the United States, we MUST STOP SPREADING HATE. The anger that is demonstrated within our own political party affiliations and in conversations in our own homes, around the kitchen table and at dinner-parties etc...is down right embarrassing.
We have to start teaching our children more about love, empathy and tolerance and worry less about things like, if our Kindergarten-aged children will be Harvard-ready. Can they read they read by age 4, can they do Core Math? Will my child pass the S.A.T? What college will they get into?  Sure, those things may be important but we have totally lost focus on the things that are truly important in life. Sure, a child needs education but do most kids today demonstrate respect to authority and compassion for others? Do they know how to entertain themselves or play outside without being forced to do so? Do they have respect for their elders? Do they show compassion for someone less fortunate than them? Do they know their history?  Do they value their freedom?  Have we even taught them about that?
You may or may not have answered yes to these questions. The point is, as a society, we are all so caught up in the future and in “making it in this world,” that we have lost sight of the core values of family and faith now, (no matter what faith you choose.)
No one is perfect. No candidate is perfect. No family is perfect, especially in the world of blended families we live in today, and with all the technology readily available, and especially, with everyone always comparing things to the “good ol’ days.”
Despite, the times we are living in today, it is so simple and so easy to just teach our children how to be respectful and most of all, tolerant of others. If we cannot even tolerate a different political party in our own Country, how are we suppose to teach our children to be tolerant of others who are different them or have different opinions? Education begins in the home, no matter what country you live in! You can disagree with a political party or candidate but please do not bring their race, religion or color of their skin into play. And for crying out loud, do not say they have to “bleach their skin to cleanse themselves out,” (as I read a long time ago on a FB post!)
Ultimately, the political race of 2016 will go down in history as one of the nastiest most controversial of all time, and consequently, we should take this opportunity to teach the younger generations that they have to strive for something better in 2020. We should use this political fiasco as a teaching tool. We must never forget, that history repeats itself, if we do not learn from its lessons, whether it be in politics or in life.
Sometimes, it is bigger than politics. Sometimes, it is not just about the candidates. Sometimes, it is about what we are teaching our children what is acceptable. It is up to us, obviously, as individuals to teach and nurture our children, but as citizens of this great Nation and inhabitants of this amazing planet, we have an obligation to do better, to be better, and to make a positive difference in the world! It starts with EACH AND EVERYONE OF US!
When our final day in this life time is here, and our "expiration date" arrives, it will not matter whether we are Republican, Democrat, Independent, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Muslim, Jewish, JW, Christian or otherwise. We are all going to “go” because no one gets out alive and all that WILL matter is how we have loved, what we have done with our lives, and how we helped others and how we have made a positive difference in this world. All the rest is nonsense.
At the end of the day, we all want the same things (I think:) PEACE, HEALTH, and ECONOMIC STABILITY for ourselves and our families. I guess the point of my rant, is to say, stop battling each other. Let's start easing up on the hate, and the insults because at the end of the day, we have this one Country we choose to live in and one planet and we are ruining them both. So my plea to the world, to the Country, to my friends and to all those of you reading this, is to start spreading more: LOVE, COMPASSION, RESPECT & TOLERANCE, no matter what you believe in. I will try for my children.
We must speak up, stand up and be the change we wish to see.
We all have to try.

SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO SINGLE DAD: PEREZ HILTON

If you follow my blog, you know that the majority of the time I am mostly talking to moms and women, but today, I thought I would give a special shout out to all of the dads out there and especially to single dads, who work so hard to provide for their children.

Everyone knows that anybody can be a dad but it takes real love and dedication to be a good father.  Today's special shout out post goes to: Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., better known, as Perez Hilton, who was born and raised in Miami, Florida, just like me.  He is best known for his gossip blog: PerezHilton.com

I can tell you that I spent many times going to read his blog to get all the juicy gossip on celebrities when I was younger. If I wanted to know what was going on with a celebrity or if something was true or controversial, I knew I could always count on Perez's blog to get me the 411.

These days I find myself following Perez on most of his social media platforms for a completely different reason. Although, he is still a fierce gossip blogger, I mainly follow him now because I absolutely love to watch how he parents his kids and how they are growing up. No, not in a stalker kind of way - in a Cuban mom kind of way!

I can totally relate to being a Cuban parent from Miami trying to do your best for your kids. However, Perez is faced with tougher obstacles in his parenting, as he is a single, gay man raising three kids alone. However, he is blessed to have his mom help him out quite often.

Don't get me wrong, being gay is NOT an obstacle! I am simply saying that it is that much harder for him to juggle his work life,  family life, his acting life and his social life alone, for which he often times, faces discrimination and lots hate (especially from people online.)  There are many great, devoted dads out there of course, but I thought I would focus my article on Perez because I use to see how much people hated him and how intensely he was criticized, simply for being an honest blogger. I have noticed how he has evolved as a human being and as a father, even if only online.

Back in the day, people either loved Perez Hilton's brutal honestly and opinions or they hated him.  I found myself somewhere in the middle. Today, I can tell you from what I have observed online, that Perez is a wonderful, loving and devoted father.  I love that he is a single dad doing his absolute best to raise his kids. Everything he does, every gig he tries out for is to better his life for his kids.  I am being bold enough to assume I know this but it is the vibe I get when I watch his videos and clips on Instagram.

I find myself completely entertained watching the videos he posts about his kids when he gives them gifts, sometimes on a daily.  Some of the things he does and discusses gets me thinking about my own parenting. It doesn't mean I agree with every single thing he does but I love that he is such an involved dad.  He takes time with each one of his kids individually and takes them on special outings often. He has also taken the time and effort to make his kids bilingual.  I know that being born in Miami, Florida myself, and being raised in a Cuban household, being bilingual was just second-nature. I have to admit though, I found it very difficult to speak ONLY Spanish to my kids.  I let that effort slip through the cracks because I only spoke to my children in Spanish until they started school and then I just got lazy about it, so I commend Perez for sticking to it and making his children bilingual. It will most definitely benefit them in the future.

One of my favorite videos and things that Perez taught his kids, was the rules of the family.  He would re-iterate with his oldest child, the importance of family, listening, being a good person etc...and then make him repeat it until he learned all the rules (a.k.a. family credos.) It was adorable to watch him say them all in Spanish.

All in all, I think that Perez Hilton, not only turned out to be a super famous blogger, which is the goal for most bloggers online, but he also turned out to be an amazing parent as well!  Kudos!

I guess the moral of my post is to never judge a book by its cover.

Oh! And speaking of book, Perez also wrote a book years ago, called The Boy With Pink Hair, which tells the story of a young boy with pink hair who gets bullied, makes a friend, and overcomes hate!

Keep rocking the dad life Perez!  (PS. Totally rooting for him to be on Celebrity Big Brother - that would be epic!)
